Dutiful Ducks (1977)
Dutiful Ducks (1982) was a solo choreographed for Michael Clark when he was 17. The accompaniment is a rhythmic, stuttering sound poem by Charles Amirkhanian. The choreography is an amalgamation between ballet steps and contemporary movement and the dancer accentuates certain beats.
When asked about the creation of the piece, Richard Alston said ‘[Michael Clark] is amazingly coordinated, apart from anything else, and relaxed, plus the fact that he was at that time 17 and amazingly sophisticated in what he knew about dance. His body knew a great deal about dance, it was quite extraordinary.’
