Live music for performance

Using live music is a priority for Richard Alston Dance Company and in most evening performances there is at least one piece performed with live accompaniment.

Recently, pieces featuring live piano, guitar, lute or clarinet have included Unfinished Business, Roughcut, Out of the Strong, Light Flooding Into Darkened Rooms and Movements from Petrushka.

The company rehearse to music on CD before a session with the musician who will perform with them on tour.  This means that sometimes small, last minute adjustments need to be made to timings. However, as the tour continues, the musician and dancers are able to experiment with tempo and take the cues from each other.
